The Rideau Canal along with Old Fort Henry in Kingston was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in June 2007.

This waterway is an amazing boating destination. Having 45 locks at 27 lockstations, the Canal is chain of beautiful lakes running 202 km from Lake Ontario in Kingston to the Ottawa River in Ottawa.

The canal is a mecca for boaters and is well marked with buoys, making it very easy to navigate. Planning on touring the Rideau Corridor could not be more easy or fun.

The Rideau Heritage Route has compiled information on a suggested itinerary for anyone wishing to paddle the Rideau Canal Waterway by canoe or kayak. You will also find a list of accomodations along the Rideau Canal where you can stay in your choice B&B's and Inns. For the more adventurous paddlers, camping at any lockstations are permitted for a small fee.

An invaluable source of information has been provided by Ken Watsons' webite, Rideau Canal Waterway. This is a must read before planning any trip along the Rideau, and will answer any questions you may have and will give you a feel for the beauty of the Rideau Canal Waterway.

Two 1:20,000 scale hydrographic charts (canal navigation maps) cover the Rideau - Chart 1512 covers Ottawa to Smiths Falls and Chart 1513 covers Smiths Falls to Kingston. These charts may be purchased at various lockstations, the Rideau Canal headquarters, or from the Friends of the Rideau visit their website, or phone 1-613-283-5810).

National Topographic Series maps covering the Rideau Waterway at the 1:50,000 scale are 31C8 (Gananoque), 31C9 (Westport), 31C16 (Perth), 31B13 (Merrickville), 31G4 (Kemptville), and 31G5 (Ottawa). To find a map dealer in your area, visit their website, or phone 1-800-465-6277.

All rentals departing from Ahoy Rentals at 23 Ontario St., Kingston, ON will include parking at no extra charge for the duration of your paddle. Please note your vehicle will be parked at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour and you will need to allow an extra 20 mins to shuttle you and your vehicle to and from this location. Should you wish to start your paddle at Kingston Mills Lockstation, an extra $40 fee will apply to deliver the boats to this location. You will be responsible for all parking fees at this location. Canoeing

Kawarha Canoe: The Kawartha is an excellent family canoe with a versatile design that is at home on both lakes and rivers. This model has a slightly rounded bottom with no keel. The entry and exit lines are blunt and will ride up on the waves.

Double Kayak

Double Kayak: This tandem recreational kayak's wide cockpit offers you ease of entry. This stable design will appeal to both novice and more experienced paddlers.

Inuvik

The Inuvik is a wide cockpit, recreational kayak suitable for a variety of paddlers. You will feel safe and comfortable in this very stable, spacious and easy to maneuver kayak. The high volume bow and large opening provide enough space for a small child or a pet to ride along. There is also lots of room for fishing or any other kind of gear.
